New 890cc V2 Engine

The biggest change on the New Ducati Monster is the new 890cc V2 engine. The engine takes the form of an around 111hp unit at maximum power at 9,000rpm and 91.1Nm of torque at 7,250rpm. Ducati has fitted the engine with Intake Variable Timing technology that aims to provide a wider and more effective torque curve throughout the rev range.

The new V2 engine is also a lot lighter than the old one of the Testastretta engine. The available launch information indicates the new engine saves approximately 5.9kg from the previous engine. This weight savings has a significant impact on the bike’s overall agility and handling.

The engine mated with a 6-speed gearbox and bi-directional quickshifter. This means quicker gear changing without the need to use the clutch when changing gears normally.

Lighter chassis and improved handling

Ducati has extensively worked to lighten the new Monster. The motorcycle is about 175kg without fuel, one of the lightest four-valve Monsters ever made by the company. The lighter build should result in improved handling in traffic and cornering agility.

The new chassis is also modeled after the Ducati’s sportier motorcycles. The company has paid particular attention to the design of a typically agile and intuitive motorcycle, not just concentrating on pure power. The lower weight, along with the V2 engine, should make the Monster very fun on twisty roads. Meanwhile, the smaller size will make it easier to handle in daily riding.

Updated Sporty Design

The New Ducati Monster’s appearance gets a complete rehash and some of the hallmarks of the Ducati model over the years are maintained. The motorcycle retains the small naked-bike design with a muscular fuel tank, exposed mechanicals and a custom round LED lighting signature.

Sharper and more modern, the new design has tried to maintain Ducati’s identity as the Monster. The front-end treatment, tank design and tail section have all been updated. The Ducati Red and Iceberg White finishes are offered on the bike, which has also been introduced in Sport Livery in international markets.

Advanced Electronics Package

The new Ducati Monster receives an extensive electronics system that makes for improved control and safety. The motorcycle has an 6-axis electronic system with IMU, enabling cornering ABS, among other rider-assistance technologies.

The electronics package features traction and wheelie control, as well as multiple riding modes. The systems enable the motorcycles’ behavior to be modified as per rider’s needs and road conditions. The four riding modes provide the rider with more flexibility, especially when changing from regular riding to more aggressive riding conditions.

5-Inch TFT Display

Ducati has equipped the new Monster with a 5-inch colour TFT instrument display. The screen includes all of the essential information including the speed, RPMs, riding mode and all of the other information about the motorcycle. The TFT display also adds to the motorcycle’s high-end appeal, and helps provide the rider with a cleaner method to access the various electronic functions of the motorcycle.

Premium Suspension and Brakes

The New Ducati Monster also features top quality equipment for handling and braking. The suspension is based on Showa units, the braking system is Brembo, and they also expect to find all of the quality equipment found on a top-notch Ducati motorcycle.

The braking system is engineered for powerful braking, and the additional electronic safety afforded by the cornering ABS means you can be confident of a safe braking experience when driving around corners. The motorcycle is also fitted with Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tyres, which offer a balance of performance on the road and sporty riding.

Maintenance Interval

The new V2 engine has a few changes, one of which is the maintenance interval. Unlike Ducati’s previous desmodromic valve system, this engine has adopted an alternative design, while also offering a valve-clearance measurement of up to 45,000km.

This is a big benefit for the owners as they may get longer engine maintenance periods, which will mean fewer major engine checks. The 45,000km valve-clearance interval is among Ducati’s big claims to fame about the new-generation V2 engine.

New Ducati Motorcycle price in India

The Ducati Monster Indian price starts at Rs 13.99 lakh, ex-showroom. It is available in Monster and Monster+ versions. The Monster+ has extra equipment and styling compared to the standard Monster. The on road price is dependent on the city, insurance, registration costs, and any other applicable costs.

The Ducati Monster will be a very competitive purchase in the premium motorcycle market with some motorcycles like the Ducati Monster Street Triple and the Kawasaki Z900 being in the mix at this price range. The main attraction however may be the new V2 engine and longer service interval for the valve clearance.
